Even though Nidderau is still a young town, the individual districts look back on a long and interesting history. This is evidenced by the more than 160 buildings that have been placed under the protection of the Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments because of their historical significance, their beauty or their uniqueness.

Stadtteillogo Windecken rot    Windecken

The district of Windecken takes its name from Wonnecken Castle. Parts of the inner castle fortifications, the eastern gate and the tower of the western gate to the outer castle have been preserved.

There is also more to see in the old town. For example, the historic market square with the old town hall, which today houses the town library.

The Wartbaum, a linden tree more than 400 years old on Hohe Straße, is the landmark of the old Hanau district. Anyone traveling in the eastern Rhine/Main Regional Park can't help but stop here for a rest because of the beautiful view.

Stadtteillogo Heldenbergen rot  Heldenbergen

The historic center of Heldenbergen also invites you to explore. It is dominated by the Catholic church. Worth seeing are the rectory, the two old school buildings and the half-timbered houses, as well as the farmsteads and the cottages of the craftsmen, day laborers and farm workers.

On the southern edge of the village, the well-kept upper castle with its pretty gate is privately owned.

Also remarkable is the railroad bridge near the village, which spans the wide valley of the Nidder at a great height with five arches.

Stadtteillogo Erbstadt rot  Erbstadt

In the center of the village of Erbstadt, which was fortified in the Middle Ages, there are numerous protected buildings. In addition to various half-timbered houses and farmsteads, the church with its churchyard, the Pfaffenhof farmstead and the old smithy in Linsengasse are worth mentioning.

The old water mill called "Hainmühle" is hidden outside the village center on the Krebsbach. To the south of Erbstadt is the scenically beautiful Naumburg Castle, which was originally a Benedictine monastery.

Stadtteillogo Eichen rot  Eichen

In the "Kleine Gasse" of Eichen, a village-like district, the former Reformed church with its Gothic door in the north side and the Untertor with parts of the village fortifications are of particular historical interest.

In addition, only a few steps away, next to the building of the former Lutheran church, are several protected half-timbered houses and the mill building on the Mühlbach.

Not to be forgotten in the nearby forest are the so-called thick stones as well as groups of tumuli on both sides of the railroad line to Stockheim.

Stadtteillogo Ostheim rot  Ostheim

Ostheim's medieval village center has remained largely unchanged. In addition to the church and the farmhouse with its beautiful archway, there are numerous half-timbered houses and farmsteads.

Remarkable are the typical hooked courtyards in the Schinnergasse.
