  • Separating waste - overview

  • General information on registration for municipal waste disposal

According to the waste disposal statutes, every household is connected to the municipal waste disposal system (compulsory connection and use). The written registration or de-registration needs to be done by the property owner. Garbage cans are provided by the city of Nidderau for residual and organic waste, as well as for waste paper.

Yellow bags for packaging waste are supplied by Veolia and can be ordered by calling 06661-96960. In case you need to place a complaint regarding Veolia, please feel free to contact the following phone number: 06184-9272-0.

Complaints regarding not emptied garbage cans: Please note, that your complaint must reach us immediately or by the next working day by the latest at 12:00 p.m.! Complaints received after this time cannot be considered.

Please address your complaints to both E-Mails directly:

The Weisgerber company will be informed immediately. Garbage cans that have not been emptied must always be left outside until the Weisgerber company has emptied them.

In the event of incomplete emptying due to frozen temperatures, wedged or stuck waste, a repeat trip for complete re-emptying can unfortunately not be offered for logistical reasons. Since only the emptied portion of the waste is charged, there is no charge for the remainder in the container.

During winter time, waste can freeze due to frosty temperatures. Therefore we suggest placing egg cartons on the bottom of the trash can and wrapping wet kitchen waste in newspaper. This is the best way to absorb excess moisture and prevent the waste from freezing easily. If possible, please do not expose your garbage can to night frost. And please make sure, to put your garbage can outside by 5.30 a.m. on collection days.

  • Organic waste

Please click here for an overview on how to separate organic waste correctly

    Container size: 120 liters

    Container color: brown

Collection: every 14 days (weekly in June, July and August)

What to do if the organic waste freezes in the organic waste garbage can?

During winters, garbage can freeze due to cold temperatures. This often affects the waste in the organic waste garbage can. Therefore we suggest placing a sufficient layer of egg carton on the bottom of the garbage can and wrapping the wet kitchen waste in newspaper. This is the best way to absorb excess moisture and prevent the waste from freezing easily. Garbage cans that are left in the yard, under the roof or in the garage between emptying should, if possible, only be made available on the day of collection (by 5:30 a.m.!) and not be exposed to the night frost. If incomplete emptying occurs due to frost or wedged or stuck waste, another trip for complete re-emptying cannot be offered for logistical reasons. Since only the emptied portion of the waste is charged, no fees are incurred for the remaining waste in the container.

The administration continues to appeal to all Nidderau citizens to consistently not use plastic bags when filling the organic waste garbage can. This also applies to so-called "compostable" plastic bio-waste bags, which are  available on the market. They consist only partly of renewable raw materials and take much longer to decompose than the collected kitchen waste itself. At the composting plant, these bags are sorted out in the same way as the mineral oil-based plastic bags. The aim is to produce pollutant-free, high-quality compost in the composting plants, which can be used in agriculture and horticulture and thus close regional nutrient cycles. The controls of the bio-waste garbage can have started. Garbage cans that are filled incorrectly or where the organic waste has been placed in plastic-type pre-separation bags will receive a red tag indicating that the garbage can has been filled incorrectly. In this case, the garbage can must be re-sorted and can be provided again at the next collection.

What belongs in the organic waste?

Branches and twigs (circumference smaller than 15cm), flowers, eggshells, garden waste (without soil), vegetable waste, coffee grounds/ coffee filters, leaves, milk and flour products, fruit peels, paper handkerchiefs, kitchen paper, plant and grass cuttings, food waste (normal household quantities), tea bags, tea grounds, weeds

Do not collect organic waste in plastic bags or compostable plastic bags, use paper bags instead!

  • Garden waste (street collection)

Important: The waste may only be provided in garden waste bags made of uncoated paper or bundled (with compostable string). The green waste must not be placed in plastic bags or cardboard boxes and then packed in the paper bags. The provision of cardboard boxes, plastic sacks or plastic containers such as food tubs, garden bags, etc., which would have to be emptied individually by the refuse collectors, is still prohibited.

Bulky garden waste is collected in bundles (tree and shrub cuttings up to max. 1 m in length and 20 cm trunk diameter). Furthermore, grass cuttings and leaves (both preferably dried) in compostable paper bags without coating. As a rule, garden waste is collected six times a year. It may be put out at the earliest one day before collection. Please note: garden waste put out earlier may attract more garbage and vermin and detract from the townscape. Garden waste should be covered when it rains.

Heavily filled bags, animal litter (including compostable), fallen fruit, turf, soil and roots as well as unbundled tree cuttings are not collected. Uncoated paper bags are available at the Tourist Information Nidderau "Mein Reisestübchen" in the Forum, Gehrener Ring 3; at "Kollers kleines Kaufhaus" in Ostheim, Sepp-Herberger-Straße 3, recycling collection point in Siemensstraße 34 and at the Hagebaumarkt in Windecken Kilianstädter Str. 13-23

  • Waste weighing

Bulky waste as well as residual and organic waste have been weighed in Nidderau since 01.01.2003.

Weighing of residual and organic waste: During emptying, the full waste container is automatically lifted at the rear of the vehicle and weighed at the highest point before emptying and directly after emptying. The difference represents the weight of the emptied waste. If, for example, part of the garbage can content is frozen in winter and cannot be emptied, this remaining quantity is not calculated.  For calibration reasons, at least 5 kg of waste is charged for each emptying, even if the weight is, for example, 0.5 or 1.5 kg. The administration therefore recommends that you only have the garbage can emptied when it is at least half full. The residual and organic waste garbage cans are equipped with a chip (invisible) and a bin number. The weight determined is linked to the chip number, stored in the on-board computer and transmitted to the administration.

Important: Make a note of your bin numbers! Compare the container number you have noted down with the container number stated in the fee notice. Both numbers must match. You will find the garbage can number on the white label on the side wall of the garbage can.

After emptying, be sure to pick up the correct bin on your property. Additional labeling on the lid can help with this.

Bulky Waste Weighing: The scale weighs in 5 kg increments and rounds up or down the weighing result. Bulky waste weights up to and including 100 kg are charged a flat fee. For weights over 100 kg, a weight fee is charged for the weight portion over 100 kg in addition to the flat fee.

  • Diaper bag service

The administration offers the diaper bag service and disposal subsidy for ostomy bags to all Nidderau families with children up to the age of 30 months upon presentation of the birth certificate (24 pieces per half year). In addition, those in need of care with medically certified incontinence. Application forms and bags are available at the City Hall gate. On the day of the residual waste collection, the bags can be placed at the street, well closed and not too heavily filled, no later than 5:30 am. The bags will be weighed in a specially numbered control bin for statistical purposes. No disposal fee will be charged. If the monthly collection interval is ever insufficient for trouble-free storage, the diaper bags can also be dropped off at the recycling center free of charge.

The use of a cloth diaper system is subsidized up to a child age of 30 months. Infants will initially only receive the subsidy for one year of life (up to and including 12 months of age). For the second year of life (up to and including 24 months of age) and for the third year of life (up to and including 30 months of age), a new application must be submitted. The subsidy for the first and second year of life is 100,00 € and for the 3rd year of life the subsidy is paid proportionally with 50,00 €.

The application for the subsidy must be submitted by the end of the respective year of life at the latest. Expired periods can no longer be considered. Appropriate proof (birth certificate of the child, invoice receipt for the purchase of cloth diapers or for the use of a diaper service) must be attached to the application. No subsidy can be granted for the period for which diaper bags have already been issued or used.

A different regulation applies to the disposal of the stoma bags. The bags are to be disposed of exclusively in the residual waste garbage can. To compensate for this, a subsidy for the disposal costs of max. 50.00 € per year is paid. The subsidy is paid from the month in which the certificate is presented.
